A happy family spending the day at a monkey sanctuary

Knoxville Activities

There is no limit to the number of activities you and your family can enjoy in Knoxville. Here are just some of them:

  1. Zoo Knoxville

This is no ordinary zoo. It’s dedicated to protecting endangered animals and creating a healthy environment for them. The Zoo Knoxville houses over 800 animals – from baby gorillas to elephants. One of the main attractions in the zoo is the red panda. This endangered species has thrived in the environment created for them by the zoo, breeding in captivity more times compared to other zoos in the world.

In addition to viewing the different wildlife species, families can also feed the giraffes, go on a night safari, and join the zoo camp. There are also many play areas for children to run around in like the Clayton Safari Splash, which is the largest splash pad in the Knox County.

The Zoo Knoxville welcomes families every day from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m and is one of the most popular Knoxville activities on the list.

  2. Ijams Nature Center

Bond with the family in this 315-acre wildlife sanctuary. Awarded as the “Favorite Place for Family Fun” in 2016, the Ijams Nature Center offers a ton of outdoor activities for people of all ages. Walk, bike, and run on their many nature trails. Go on an outdoor picnic and bask in the serene atmosphere of the nature center. Kids can also play in Jo’s Grove, a nature playscape made up of beautifully sculpted wood art.

The Ijams Nature Center also offers various environmental education programs that teach guests about nature, the environment, and how to save it.

The Ijams Nature Center is open from Monday to Saturday at 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  3. Navitat Canopy Adventures

This adventure park is a tree-top obstacle course with six adventure trails to go through. Families will be challenged to climb ropes, brave the zip lines, and crawl through tunnels in the trees.

The Navitat Canopy Adventures, which is a part of the Ijams Nature Center, is a thrilling way for you and your children to spend time together in wonderful surroundings. Choose the difficulty level of your adventure trail based on the age of your kids, who should be at least seven years old. Sturdy harnesses and safety gear are provided. Walk-ins are okay, but it’s best to reserve a slot for your family in advance.

  4. The Muse Knoxville

Located in Chilhowee Park, The Muse Knoxville is a children’s museum and playground all rolled into one. With over 4,000 square feet of playground space, this museum is a great way for children to learn about science and art through playing, exploring, and discovering the different kid-friendly exhibits. The Muse Knoxville also has a public-access planetarium that gives hourly showings through their Warped Media Full Dome Projection System. The Muse Knoxville is open daily at various times.

  5. Maple Hall Bowling

Nothing spells good ol’ family fun quite like bowling. Knock those pins at one of the 11 lanes in Mable Hall Bowling. Located in the center of downtown Knoxville, this boutique bowling alley delivers food, fun, and healthy competition. The Maple Hall Bowling area also has a full-service bar, a live stage, and a private VIP room. Maple Hall Bowling is open from Monday to Thursday at 4:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., and Friday and Saturday at 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. Maple Hall is one of the most popular Knoxville activities for people living downtown.
