4 Top Reasons to Visit the Ijams Nature Center

Ijams Nature Center trail

In this day and age, where the answer to every question is “Google it,” it can be hard to think of a reason to leave all your cozy technology behind to visit the Great Outdoors. If we all took a second to put our screens down, we could see that nature, particularly that of the Ijams Nature Center, has a lot to offer us. Here are the 4 top reasons to visit the Ijams Nature Center:

  1. Visiting the Ijams Nature Center Is Free

They say nothing in life is free, but having a great time at the Ijams Nature Center actually is, so I think “they” maybe need to get their facts in order. In all seriousness though, I have a hard time finding parking that’s free so the Ijams Nature Center is a Godsend.

  2. “Take a Hike” Never Sounded So Good

If your social media bio says you love hiking, the Ijams Nature Center is the place for you. There are 12 miles for you to hike around in inside the Will Skelton Greenway. You can get a trail map at the Visitor Center for just $1.00 so you don’t go the way of the kids from the Blair Witch Project.

If you’re newer to hiking than your social bio would let on, there’s a backpacking workshop and group trips that you can sign up for also.

  3. Blazing the Trails at Ijams Nature Center Is a Blast

There’s not one or even just two bike trails at the Ijams Nature Center – There are three in the Mead’s Quarry, the Ross Marble Natural Area and the Will Skelton Greenway. There are nine miles of bike trails available at the center! The difficulty levels range from beginner to intermediate, so don’t worry if you’re a little rusty.

If you don’t have a bike, don’t sweat it (not before you hit the trail – you’ll just waste energy). You can rent bikes at the Ijams Nature Center in two-hour increments. A two-hour rental is just $15 and a four-hour rental is $20. If you want to rent the bike for a full day, you can for just $35.

  4. There’s Nothing Boat the Best at the Ijams Nature Center

Paddle your way across the lake at the Ijams Nature Center. If you’re new to paddling or need a refresher, you can learn better paddling techniques at the Ijams Outdoor Academy. You can rent all the equipment you need at the center thanks to their partnership with River Sports Outfitters.

You can paddle as much as you like during the Summer between 11:00 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays and between noon and 7:00 p.m. on Sundays.
